Hudson River swimming pool concept to expand
The effort to place a swimming pool in the Hudson River at Beacon drew a sizeable number of people last summer in a children’s pool.
The man behind the idea, folk singer and environmental activist Pete Seeger, said there are plans now to add a second pool.
“The children’s pool at 1,000 people, but it’s very small; it’s only 20 feet in diameter. And, now we’re raising money for a big pool that could swim laps in it,” he said. “It’s really quite a thing to be able to boast that now the river is swimmable, at least in this part.”
To the south, in New York City, the Hudson is still not swimmable, Seeger said.
Seeger was the founder of the sloop Clearwater vessel and subsequent environmental organization.
