New York City may be a bustling metropolis, but it also offers several fantastic locations for birding. Here are some of the top spots to go birding in NYC:

  1. Central Park: A haven for birdwatchers, with its diverse habitats attracting a wide variety of bird species. Visit popular birding spots within the park, such as the Ramble, the Reservoir, and the North Woods, to observe resident and migratory birds.
  2. Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge: Located in Queens, the Refuge is one of the premier birding destinations in NYC. This expansive area encompasses wetlands, salt marshes, and woodlands on the Atlantic Bird Flyway, attracting a rich diversity of bird species throughout the year.
  3. Prospect Park: The Brooklyn park is another excellent birding spot in the city. Explore areas like the Ravine, the Nethermead, and the lake to observe a variety of bird species, including waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors.
  4. Staten Island Greenbelt: The Greenbelt offers ample opportunities for birding, with its forests, meadows, and wetlands providing habitats for a range of bird species. Visit locations like High Rock Park and the Greenbelt Nature Center to spot woodland birds and migratory species.
