AN EPIC UNVEILED: GOING COASTAL’S BOOK LAUNCH DIVES INTO NEW YORK CITY’S MARITIME TAPESTRY
The book launch event took place at Pier 66 Hudson River, a fitting location to celebrate the publication of the book. This event was to recognize and express gratitude to the numerous sponsors and individuals who played a vital role in supporting the publishing of the book. Among these were Reinauer Tug, a longstanding presence in the harbor, and Maersk Sealand, the visionary behind the uniform shipping container that revolutionized global trade. Also acknowledged were the New York Post, which began in print as a source of shipping news, and the Journal of Commerce as well as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for their significant support in bringing this project to fruition. The gathering also served as a platform for the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York to honor Going Coastal with a Proclamation for its commitment to preserving and sharing the maritime history.
Going Coastal organized “A Maritime History of New York” conference and panel discussion of maritime history experts. The event, held at the historic Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, was attended by over 200 passionate individuals eager to unravel the captivating tales of New York City’s storied maritime past. Esteemed speakers, including renowned cruise expert Bill Miller, the Captain of the Sandy Hook Pilots, Tug Capt. Pamela Hepburn, and the distinguished Robert McCaughey, Professor of History at Columbia University, graced the occasion. Moderated by the erudite editor of the Journal of Commerce, the panel discussion illuminated the depths of maritime knowledge and inspired all in attendance.
