The Secret Spring of Clove Lakes Park
THERE is something deeply anachronistic about the sight of men and women crossing a grassy field near Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island, carrying five-gallon plastic jugs to collect the water that bubbles up from an artesian well deep beneath the ground.
Erosion threatens park trees
At least a dozen trees have begun to topple or have already fallen into Clove Lakes, Martlings Pond and Brooks Pond, their roots exposed and the ground that used to hold them nearly washed away.
